Adopting Expansive Language form of Eucharistic Prayer A for Lent

Over the past several General Conventions, the triennial governing body of The Episcopal Church, there have been resolutions passed that encourage trial usage of expansive language in our established Eucharistic Prayers. Expansive language differs slightly from inclusive language in that gendered pronouns are still utilized. However, no longer is this language for God exclusively masculine.

Based on feedback from the All Saints Worship Committee it has been decided to adopt the use of the expansive language form of Eucharistic Prayer A for the season of Lent. For some, this will be a long overdue and welcome change. For others, it may seem a bit awkward or odd. For others still, it will be difficult to understand why such a change is warranted. One thing that I have come to appreciate about All Saints is our willingness to lean into what I would describe as “traditioned innovation.” While it is clear that we cherish our traditions, we are also nimble enough to have an attitude of experimentation that helps us avoid becoming stagnant in our spirituality.
