Being vulnerable can lead to hurt.  Jacob, like many us,  was terrified to be vulnerable.  He was not vulnerable with his family or his God.  We aren't told the responses of Leah or Rachel to Jacob's decisions. Neither women were asked if they wanted to marry Jacob.  He was unwilling to open himself up to the possibility of hearing "no" so no question was asked.
