Moments of Gratitude

In this space, you’ll find reflections from parishioners who have taken a moment to say “thank you”, to God, to this church, and to one another. We hope you’re encouraged by their writings, voices or videos, and inspired to reflect on your own blessings, large and small. We invite you to pause, be encouraged, and consider what you’re grateful for today as well.

The McDaniel Family

Ryan and I have been attending All Saints’ since 2021. We were immediately welcomed and shown many groups that we could be a part of to get involved. 20’s Together and All Saints’ has been a constant in our lives ever since. We got married this past summer at All Saints’ surrounded by family and friends and could not have imagined getting married anywhere else. We are grateful for the support we have received both individually and as a couple through our All Saints’ community. The best way we know to show gratitude to the place that has given us so much direction and purpose is by pledging for the upcoming year, so that All Saints’ can continue to provide that same direction and purpose for so many.

We are so grateful for All Saints, where the warmth of the welcome immediately made us feel at home. Our children have found joy and belonging through the children’s formation, EYC, youth programs, and involvement opportunities, where they are not only learning about faith but also building friendships and spiritual confidence. We love that All Saints is rooted in the heart of Homewood, making it a true part of our daily community, but most of all, we are thankful for the people whose kindness, encouragement, and love make this church our spiritual home.

Thanks,

The Hefner Family

Bob & Pam Phillips

45 years ago Bob and I walked through the doors of All Saints, warmly welcomed by Anne and Sam Sockwell and Sara and Charles Jackson. In so doing, they invited us into this community of faith that has become our home in every sense of the word. This is where we have raised our children, made lifelong friends, learned, prayed and grown in faith.

There are seasons in one’s life which span the decades. In our younger years we were blessed with knowing and learning from church elders and leaders. We were and continue to be inspired and gladdened by the children and youth with their innocence, their energy, their honesty and bravery. Our foray into Christian Formation in Sunday Schools, Cursillo, EfM, Companions in Christ and Prayer Group continue to make us stretch in our faith and our attempts to understand the mystery of God and the Way, as practiced and taught by Jesus. The occasions for fellowship (ECW, St. Martha’s, Prime Time Saints) continue to bind us together as one Body. Opportunities for service through ushering, LEM, Sawyerville, Family Promise, SWEEP (the original IWC) and Meal Team ( and of course there are many more ministries to engage in) have been supremely meaningful. These ministries all need willing hands and hearts. They build relationships and promote healing. It is through these experiences we understand our joyful duty is to be the hands and feet and voice of our God here in the present moment.

All of these building blocks of faith would not have been available if the Holy Spirit had not led us through those doors so many years ago where we were made welcome. We are grateful beyond measure. It is here we have come to know God, our neighbor and ourselves. Maybe it was God’s whisper and plan for us to come here. How happy we are that we listened!

I am really grateful for All Saints because it has given me so many ways to be involved and grow. I love being part of the Atrium and EYC ministries, where Kathleen, Jeannie, Joie, and Grace make church fun and meaningful instead of an obligation, and I’ve made so many friends including those from different schools. Serving as an acolyte and helping with the altar guild has taught me a lot about how our services work and the meaning behind our traditions, while also giving me the chance to keep the church welcoming and beautiful. I especially enjoy working alongside others my age as an acolyte and being a role model for younger kids, since it shows that teens can play an important part in worship. Having these roles makes me feel like I’m truly helping the church, and I’m thankful for the community that encourages and includes us.

Conrad & Susan Ponder

When you find yourself being uprooted from the location you call home you search ways to connect at your new location. Over the course of many moves the answer we’ve found was finding a church, a place to make friends and connect to a worship community. Has this always been easy? Not really. However, the moment we stepped foot into All Saints’ there was something different. We were greeted and made welcomed then invited to participate in the ministries offered. For that we will be forever grateful, as we knew we had found a caring community that has been our spiritual home for the past several years.

We think one of the best ministries in our parish is the Invite, Welcome, & Connect program. It’s that reaching out to others seeking a church home, a place to belong, people like we were, trying to find a community of faith that would love, nurture and help through life challenges and changes. A place we continue to deepen our connection to one another and to God, through Worship, Prayer, Bible study, and Outreach programs so we can we can continue to Embody Christ’s Transforming Love both inside and outside our church doors. For that we say THANKS BE TO GOD.

Dale and I are both grateful to be members of such a vibrant and caring Church community. We are so grateful to have such a deep and talented Choir led by Melanie Couch. To us she is much more than a choir director / organist. She clearly has an ear for vocal and musical talent and consistently brings new ideas and musical presentations for all to enjoy. It is a blessing to have such a rich and diverse musical program.

Peace,

Sam and Dale Foley

Hosting the Twenties Together class in our home on Sunday evenings has truly been a blessing for Mona and me. We've had the joy of building meaningful relationships, walking alongside these young adults through their journeys, and helping create a close-knit, faith-filled community.

All Saints’ has provided this class to get connected and put down roots within the church and we are proud of our class for getting involved: four attendees have gotten confirmed, one re-affirmed, and one baptized. We are deeply grateful to be instruments of God’s love during a season of life that can often feel lonely and uncertain. It has been a pleasure getting to know each other and learning, laughing and enjoying fellowship with another generation.

Thank you,
Trent Ponder

The Good Shepherd Choir at All Saints holds a special place in our family's hearts. Even with just one or two songs, their singing brings a beautiful, heartfelt opening to services and allows the children's voices to shine. It's been truly inspiring to see the growing confidence in our daughter (6) and son (4) as they bravely sing in front of the entire congregation. We are so grateful to Ms. Maggie and Ms. Elena for their invaluable investment in the children's choirs at All Saints, encouraging an environment that values the children's contributions and celebrates their participation in worship.

Grace, love, peace, and authenticity. These are all words I associate with All Saints. I am profoundly grateful to be a part of a community that is so intentional about sharing a Christ like love with the world. Our members are warm and welcoming in the most authentic way. There is no sense of pretention. We welcome each person as they are, giving grace for imperfections. We seek to form lasting and meaningful bonds that improve the quality of the lives of those who are blessed to call All Saints their church home. This genuine atmosphere is the product of ministries like Invite Welcome Connect that welcome and encourage families to join and be involved in our community. It is the product of beautiful ministries like Atrium and EYC which continue to teach our children how to think and behave more like our loving and compassionate God. It is also a product of our beautiful spaces which provide a sense of peace and reverence necessary for meaningful worship. And we carry this atmosphere outside our walls when we share our abundant love with the community through regular outreach efforts like Avondale Breakfast, Homewood Helps, Angel Tree, and Kairos, but also in times of crisis like Hurricane Helene. For all of the things, and so much more, I am truly filled with gratitude.

I can’t begin to share just one moment of gratitude about All Saints! I feel it every time we sing “Jesus Loves Me” at a baptism, when I see joy on the faces of children coming into church from Atrium, when I watch new acolytes at their first service, when the youth lead our services, or when I hear the laughter and see shared friendships at Prime Time Saints. My 45 years of membership in this church family has sustained and lifted me up every day.

The Ennis Family

I’m deeply grateful for Atrium at All Saints. The love, patience, and dedication shown by the staff and volunteers who guide our children through this beautiful process of spiritual formation is truly a gift. Their work has planted seeds of faith, wonder, and reverence in our kids—seeds that will grow and last a lifetime. I’m especially thankful that our children have had the chance to experience such a rich, thoughtful introduction to the life of the Church.

Atrium has nurtured in them a quiet confidence in their faith and a deep sense of belonging within the Church. It has offered them a peaceful, meaningful space to explore God’s love and grow spiritually at their own pace. This is just one of the many reasons why my family is so grateful to All Saints—and why we proudly support it.

Thanks for all you do,

Matt Ennis

More Announcements

December 16, 2025
All Saints is excited to announce that Ethan Armistead will be our newest seminarian. After two years of prayer and discernment, Ethan has been named a postulant for Holy Orders. He will begin seminary this fall. Ethan has listened closely for where God is leading. His message is below: Last week I attended the Bishops Advisory Commission on Ministry. Bishop Curry has informed me that I was made a postulant for Holy Orders. I am so grateful, and delighted to announce that I will be attending seminary in the Fall! I have been in a process through the Church for about two years now, discerning my call to priesthood. I have kept a listening heart, and a posture of dependency on the Lord. A group of wise and amazing individuals helped me discern this call. Brad Landry, Bryson Waldo, Susanna Whitsett, Marisa Mitchell, Trent Ponder, and the late Joseph Slane. This group listened to me, gave wisdom, and helped me discern what this call God has put on my life means. Going to seminary means so much to me. I am able to obey what God has called me to do. I look forward to spreading God’s love, and being a vessel for the Holy Spirit. To helping others, and being a faithful servant to a good, and gracious God. Thank you All Saints!

Fiddlesticks Music hosted its largest single-day outreach event to date—a joyful Singalong Concert for families in our program and the wider community. Despite the rain, we gathered in the Great Hall, where 163 attendees filled the space with music, laughter, and connection. Families spread out on blankets, singing along to a live music concert designed especially for children ages 0–5. The atmosphere was electric with joy; parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends all joined in, creating a beautiful tapestry of voices and generations. The sense of community in the room was palpable. All ages and abilities were welcomed and celebrated. It was a moment of pure musical magic. Participants also had the opportunity to connect with staff and learn more about the All Saints Choir School and other All Saints programming for children and families. These conversations helped deepen relationships and open doors for continued musical and spiritual growth. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event so lovely and unforgettable. Here's to many more moments of shared music and joy!

Alert! To be clear, All Saints' Clergy, Vestry, Warden's or staff will NEVER ask for money or gift cards from you! If you receive any communication asking for money in any form at all, it is a SCAM! Or if you get texts asking for a private conversation, it is a scam! These scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, so it’s important to approach texts and emails with caution. One quick way to spot a scammer is to check the email address it came from. No matter the name, look at the email address. Emails from All Saints staff will always end with "@allsaintsbhm.org" (i.e. office@allsaintsbhm.org). Never reply to, click on, or enter any information if you receive one of these suspicious EMAIL/TEXT messages. Most schemes involve scammers mimicking church staff, typically posing as someone in a position of authority asking you for money transfers or gift cards. Many times, the scammers will manipulate the email address, name, or even the area code of phone numbers, so that it appears to be coming from someone you know. Even if the email or text seems legitimate, if a request seems even remotely “off” or is asking for anything from you, don’t act on it until you confirm it with a phone call ( 205-879-8651 ) or face-to-face conversation with someone at All Saints. Some general suggestions: Check sender details carefully. Any suspicious emails or text message should be investigated before replying. Pay attention to the message content, including attachments and URLs. When in doubt, call: If there are questions about any email, do not reply. Instead, call our office - 205-879-8651 Label it spam: If your email service has the ability, report the email as spam. Here’s how you can report these scams: Report Phishing Attacks: the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team has an Incident Reporting page to report email phishing, as well as an email to forward them to, at https://www.us-cert.gov/report-phishing . Forward all emails to the Anti Phishing Working group at phishing-report@us-cert.gov . Report text scams to through the Federal Trade Commission’s Complaint Assistant which helps the FTC detect patterns of fraud and abuse.
