Earwitness

You are invited to a special event Sunday, May 5, from 4:00pm-5:30pm here at All Saints! This will be a conversation between journalist Beth Shelburne, host of the critically-acclaimed Earwitness podcast about Toforest’s case, and Akeriya “Muffin” Terry, Toforest’s daughter who has been making short videos on Instagram to tell her story of growing up with a father on death row for something he didn’t do.

Toforest Johnson, a 50-year-old Black man, has been on Death Row for more than 25 years for a crime he did not commit. Greater Birmingham Ministries is leading a state-wide advocacy campaign with faith-based institutions seeking to support his case and bring him home to his family. Hundreds of Alabama residents and faith leaders – as well as Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr, and even the original trial prosecutor - have called for a new trial. But Alabama continues to seek Toforest’s execution.

A prayer for our new Rector: Almighty God, who knows our needs even before we ask, grant us peace and a spirit of faith, that we may have the wisdom and courage to meet the days to come with steadfast hope and patience; look graciously upon our beloved All Saints’, and send forth your Holy Spirit to guide the search committee, the vestry, and our parish family to be of one heart and one mind, that we may seek and receive a faithful pastor to care for your people and equip us for our ministries.
