Confirmation Sunday May 11

Join us for Confirmation Sunday, May 11! This special service welcomes The Rt. Rev. Glenda S. Curry, Bishop of the Diocese of Alabama!

*ATTENTION YOUTH: please arrive by 7:50am for time with the Bishop before the service! Youth will be confirmed at the 8:30am service, adults at the 11:00am service and there is a reception in the Great Hall from 10-10:30am.

In Confirmation, a baptized Christian makes "a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop." (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 857)

One can be confirmed whenever he or she is ready to accept the promises made on their behalf at their baptism. This usually happens during the teen years, but adults of any age may be confirmed in the church. One must be baptised before being confirmed.

Confirmation expresses not only a desire to live as an adult Christian, it also indicates a desire to do so in the Episcopal Church and the world-wide Anglican Communion.

The sacrament of Confirmation is something that only a bishop can perform, so our confirmations are scheduled around the times when the bishop will visit our parish. Typically, confirmation follows a period of preparation, examination, and exploration into all aspects of the Christian life. This period of time may last several months.

Reception into the Episcopal Church
While it is not a sacrament of the Church, the rite of reception is available for those who have been baptized and confirmed by a bishop in another Christian church (Roman Catholic, Lutheran, or Eastern Orthodox for example), but who wish to formally recognize their new membership in the Episcopal Church.

Blast Off with the Adult Choir! Come be a part of the New Generation of choir members!! We need you to step up and boldly go where so many great singers have gone before. Come to Choir Camp, come to a rehearsal, don that robe and grab a black folder, and sing to the Lord a new song! Talk to Melanie ( mcouch@allsaintsbhm.org ) or any Adult Choir member about giving it a try. Musicians of all skill levels are welcome. You are welcome even if singing in a choir would be a brave new world for you! Choir Camp is at Camp McDowell August 28-30 (the same weekend as the Parish Retreat). You can come for any part of the weekend to explore this final frontier. Wednesday rehearsals are 6:30-8:30 each week starting on September 2. Anyone is welcome to check it out!
