Music Programs for Adults

Music is an integral part of worship at All Saints.  As St. Augustine said, “To sing is to pray twice.” Our Organist and Choir Director, Melanie Couch, Youth Music Director, Susie Youngson, and Associate for Music and Children’s Choirs, Maggie Gill, along with soloists and featured musicians lead the singing of traditional hymns from The Hymnal 1982 at the 11:00am Service of the Word each Sunday. Online services can be found on Facebook or Vimeo

Outdoor worship services offer music from the 5:30 Musicians or our All Saints youth band, Basement 105. These less formal offerings largely feature songs found in the Alleluia III songbook, which grew out of the Alabama Cursillo movement.

  • Adult Choir

Traditionally, the adult choir sings at the 11am service on Sundays (September through June) and rehearses Wednesday evenings from 6:45-8:45pm (September through May). The choir loves to sing together, enjoy fellowship together, and most importantly, serve God together. We are made up of and welcome a wide range of musical abilities. We sing a broad spectrum of beautiful traditional church music anthems and also include a major work with orchestra during the year. We begin each year with a choir retreat held at Camp McDowell in late August. We hold and annual choir bbq, which serves as a fundraiser for the music fund and also provides a parish-wide event.

  • 5:30 Musicians

Traditionally, Instrumentalists and song leaders provide music during the 5:30pm service on Sundays. We welcome new musicians to play or lead singing one Sunday a month.

Music Programs for Children and Youth

Do you have a child who loves music? We have music programs serving babies through high schoolers. Please click the boxes below for more information on each program.

We need to hear from you! We are making plans for safe learning and music making with your child. As we solidify plans, your feedback is incredibly important. Please take a few minutes to fill out the surveys found by clicking each box below for the ensemble that applies to your family.

Since each age group has slightly different plans, it's important to hear from you about each one that applies to you. We want to make sure our plans will provide opportunities that will provide your family with the best possible options.

  • Little Lambs

The Little Lambs is a class for parents and children (ages 1-3) that explores the basic building blocks of music through songs that reflect our Christian faith. We play simple instruments, dance, and have FUN! Our current plan for Little Lambs: To have a private Facebook group for any family interested. This group will serve as our group “homepage.” Every week, there will be an online 15-20 minute video singalong with Maggie (either recorded or livestream). All of these videos will be available for rewatching at any time on the Little Lambs Facebook group. There will be no limit on how many families can sign up.

  • Good Shepherd Choir

The Good Shepherd Choir is for children 4 years old through first grade. We joyfully sing and dance as we learn new songs, with a focus on a love of music and an introduction to participation in worship through music. Our current plan for Good Shepherd Choir: To have groups of 5-7 children meet for 30min. Each group will have a single leader, and each group will always meet with the same children, so as to create a stable group. First, they will meet in a larger indoor space, to work on music atrium works (masked and socially distanced). Then, they will go outside for a short time of singing/instrument play.

  • Children's Choir

The All Saints Children’s Choir is for boys and girls in grades 2–6. We sing more challenging pieces, focusing on good technique and basic musicianship skills. Our current plan for Children's Choir: To have the choir meet for an hour at 5pm on Wednesdays. They will be split into two (masked and socially distanced) groups that will rotate for 30min of instrumental work with handbells/drums/etc. Then 30min of singing outside. Singing rehearsals will be supplemented by online rehearsals via Zoom. They will work toward some virtual choir pieces and instrumental pieces for special services plus pieces they can sing once it is safe to gather again; particularly a musical they were supposed to perform in spring 2020 that we hope to reschedule for spring 2021.

  • Youth Choir

The All Saints Youth Choir is open to boys and girls grades 7-12. Building on previously learned skills, this group will sing more difficult pieces, but all singers are welcome regardless of experience. Our current plan for Youth Choir: To have the choir meet for an hour at 6:00pm on Wednesdays.

  • Basement 105

Basement 105 is a group for middle and high schoolers who are proficient in a variety of instruments and who love playing music together. They lead worship music for outdoor services and special events throughout the year. Our current plan for B105: To suspend regular in-person rehearsals and meet as needed. This group can play for outdoor services a few times this fall. We will rehearse once before we play in the King Garden (outdoors) masked and distanced. Music will be available for practicing on your own beforehand if you need to.
